In 2016 North Texas Municipal Water District and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service received a Texas Nonpoint Source Grant from the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board to begin the process to develop a stakeholder driven Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) that would address the water quality impairments within the watershed. Through this process, the Lavon Lake Watershed Partnership was formed, and the Lavon Lake Watershed Protection Plan was developed. The plan was accepted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as meeting all requirements of EPA's nine element guidance for watershed based plans in November of 2017. These projects helped collect data and develop essential components to support the development of a Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) for Lake Lavon.
