The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) is a state agency that works in conjunction with local soil and water conservation districts, to encourage the wise and productive use of the state's soil and water resources by implementing the constitutional provisions and state laws relating to the conservation and protection of our soil and related resources; and planning, implementing, and managing programs and practices for abating agricultural and silvicultural nonpoint source pollution so that all Texas's present and future needs for these natural resources can be met in a manner that promotes a clean, healthy environment and strong economic growth.
We:
- Administer and coordinate the state's soil and water conservation programs through the state's soil and water conservation districts.
- Encourage and support the voluntary approach to the application of conservation practices and management.
- Leverage state funds with federal grant funds to assist in the implementation of conservation practices to conserve the state's soil and water resources.
- Involve local soil and water conservation districts, other governmental entities, agricultural organizations, environmental organizations and local producers and landowners in program creation and implementation.
Services provided by the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board
The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board:
- Assists local soil and water conservation districts throughout the state in administering conservation programs based on the voluntary application of conservation practices and management.
- Utilizes the current network of 217 districts as the vehicle to provide necessary local leadership and the appropriate information on what practices are technically best for site specific farming or ranching operations.
- Has programs requested by and delivered through local soil and water conservation districts to the local landowner and producers to provide technical assistance concerning conservation needs.
- Works with other entities of government, agricultural organizations to bring about the conservation of soil and water resources on the agricultural lands of the state.
Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board Customer Service Principles
The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board will:
- Conduct activities in a legal, open, honest, professional, courteous, efficient, and timely manner.
- Perform its mission with the best interests of soil and water conservation districts, producers and consumers in mind.
- Respond to written requests for information within five working days.
- Immediately route information requests to the appropriate agency even if the request does not relate to the TSSWCB.
- Be on-time for appointments or provide reasonable advance notice of the need to change an appointment.
- Provide an internet site that contains information on the activities and role of the agency containing current and past projects and programs.
- Provide publications, pamphlets, and presentations on agency activities.
- Provide information releases when appropriate.
- Maintain a conscientious, well-trained staff.
- Make commitments and provide acknowledgment of actions taken.
- Admit mistakes and promptly act to correct them.

Suggestions may be received in person, by telephone, fax, by e-mail, or in writing to any Board employee. The Board employee will forward the suggestion to the appropriate person. The suggestion will be acknowledged and any follow-up will also be acknowledged.
