Registration Open for 76th Annual Meeting of Texas Soil & Water Conservation District Directors

TEMPLE - The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board announced (TSSWCB) the opening of registration for the 76th Annual Meeting of Texas Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Directors. The annual meeting will be held at the Waco Convention Center in Waco on October 17-19, 2016.

This meeting provides SWCD Directors, employees, and conservation partners the opportunity to address issues relevant to the state of Texas’ natural resources.

During the three-day event, many committee meetings will be held, as well as an abundance of learning opportunities. Senator Charles Perry will deliver a keynote address on Tuesday morning during the general session. Workshops will follow the session covering a wide variety of topics from water, poultry production, and trade with Cuba to grazing management and soil health.

The spouse’s Auxiliary will hold a business meeting and offer a tour of Homestead Heritage. Homestead Heritage is an agrarian- and craft-based Christian community. Homestead Craft Village is internationally known for its quality craftsmanship.

On Wednesday, meeting participants are invited to take part in a conservation tour at the Historic Landmark of Agricultural and Biological Engineering in Riesel. The USDA Soil Conservation Service (USDA-SCS) established three experimental watersheds in the mid-1930s to analyze soil erosion, flood events, and water resource impacts. Operated by the USDA Agricultural Research Service, the chief scientific research agency of the USDA, in cooperation with Texas A&M AgriLife Research.
