Upcoming Public Meeting of the Nueces River Watershed Partnership to be Held on November 7th

CORPUS CHRISTI Area landowners and citizens interested in the implementation of the Lower Nueces River Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) are invited to a public meeting on Wednesday,

November 7, 2018. The meeting is hosted by the Nueces River Authority and will be held at the Hilltop Community Center (Wing C-4 Room in the WIC Hall) located at 11425 Leopard in Corpus Christi from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The meeting will focus on implementation activities and upcoming events in the watershed.

The WPP was developed proactively to address potential threats and ensure the long-term protection of water quality in the Coastal Bend region through implementation of both urban and rural best management practices. “The Lower Nueces River WPP is a critical component for ensuring long term protection of the water supply in the Coastal Bend. The Nueces River Authority is grateful for the continued support of the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and local community in the implementation of the WPP,” said Con Mims, Executive Director of the Nueces River Authority.

The 39-mile stretch of the Nueces River, between Lake Corpus Christi and the saltwater barrier dam at Labonte Park is the primary source of drinking water for nearly 500,000 people the area. The watershed is approximately 116,862 acres within Jim Wells, San Patricio and Nueces counties. This water body was listed in 2012 in the Texas Integrated Report for elevated levels of total dissolved solids.

Funding for this effort is provided through a State Nonpoint Source Grant administered by the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board.
