The Texas Well Owner Network (TWON) program is a free, educational training for Texas residents who depend on household wells for their water needs. TWON is for private well owners who want to become familiar with groundwater resources, septic system maintenance, well maintenance, water quality and water treatment.

Area residents wanting to have their well water screened should pick up sample bag, bottle and instructions from the local AgriLife Extension office between August 5-12.

August 13th, water samples can be dropped off from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Waller County AgriLife Extension office, 846 6th Street, Hempstead.

On August 14th, the follow-up meeting to explain the results of the screenings will be from noon until 1:00 p.m. at the extension office.

“The TWON program was established to help well owners become familiar with Texas groundwater resources, septic system maintenance, well maintenance and construction, and water quality and treatment,” he said. “It allows them to learn more about how to improve and protect their community water resources.”

Water samples will be screened for contaminants, including total coliform bacteria, E. coli, nitrate-nitrogen and salinity and in some counties arsenic.
